2024 Round 6 Cadwell Park Preview: A Mountain to Climb

Updated: Aug 7

Its been a succession of my favourite circuits recently and to continue that theme we head to Cadwell this weekend for Round 6 of the BRSCC Mazda MX-5 Supercup. But another common theme Cadwell shares with both Anglesey and Croft is that I have never actually driven around Cadwell in a Supercup car before!

My first trip to Cadwell was back in 2019 in the mk1, where I quickly learned how much time it takes to learn the "Mini Nurburgring" with the extremely narrow nature of the circuit and the huge undulations, it makes Cadwell by far the hardest circuit on the calendar to learn and be competitive at. I distinctly remember going into the weekend having not been able to book onto the full day of Friday testing feeling extremely undercooked.

However, 2020 my love with the circuit began. narrowly missing out on podium finishes in both races of the season opener! In 2021 after a disappointing qualifying having respected the track limits more than most, I set about fighting my way to the front and although it resulted in 2 second place finishes behind an on-fire Oli Allwood that weekend, I still consider it to be one of the best weekends I had that season. The lap record I had from that season only eventually being taken last year by Ted Bradbury.

Last time out at Croft, things finally started to take a turn for the better, with some decent speed on the Friday in the dry, followed by a surprise 2nd and 3rd place in qualifying in the wet, and my first podium finish in the supercup since Snetterton 2022. There is still a long way to go to get the same kind of results in dry weather and Cadwell poses a real test to see how much progress we really made over the Croft weekend.

For this weekend we return to the Qualifying and 3x20mins race format which will all have live timing on TSL but unfortunately for the 3rd round out of 6, we once again do not have live streaming. I can only apologise to my sponsors for the poor coverage the championship has had this season. Below is the link to the TSL live timing page:

See you on the other side!
